Department of mathematics

The department of Mathematics is one of the most important departments in Shanxi University. In recent years, with in-depth educational reform and opening to the outside world, the department of Mathematics has made great progress in the construction of academic disciplines and the staff team, scientific research and student training, high-tech development and economic research and student training in the disciplines of mathematical in Shanxi University.

At resent, the department is in possess of a strong staff team, including 3 supervisors for Ph.D. students, 13 professors and 14 associate professors, and 12 of them have doctor's degrees. All of them have abundant teaching and research experiences and are the key figures in developing academic disciplines and training students with high quality and creative ability.

Now there are 3 undergraduate programs under the department and they are Mathematics and applied Mathematical. Information and calculation science, statistics. The department is authorized to award master's degree of basic Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operation research and Cybernetics, made distinguishing and Intelligence system. The department offers 1 Doctor's program, Basic Mathematics, for Ph.D. candidates.

In the recent 10 years, the department has undertaken more than 50 research project of national,provincial,ministerial and local level, and has received over 20 awards in Shanxi Province, and has published more than 300 papers in various journals in China and abroad.

With the development of decades, the department has become one of the important educational bases for training first-class professionals in its field. The department aims at training 21^st century professionals of wide scope of knowledge, great motivaerion at wok, high adaptability in scientific research management and teaching. It places emphasis on expanding students' scope of knowledge, so that they can have a general idea of the related subjects, high-tech development and prospects of applicarion,paving the way for their future research and development. Students are trained not only to obtain a solid background , mathematics, but also to possess good knowledge and skills in practice. Many of the young and middle-aged graduates are now playing a leading role in their respective fields.

At present, in order to build department of mathematics of Shanxi University into one of the state-class departments, the teachers and students of the whole department are working hard. We sincerely welcome all the students to study in out department and we struggle together to promote the development of mathematics science of our country.
