The
School of Life Science &Technology was founded in 1949 with
the name of the department of biology, and gained its present name
as a result of integrating the Department of Biology and the Institute
of Biological Technology. It is serving as the center for life science
education, research and biotechnology development in Shanxi Province.

The
School of Life Science &Technology has a tradition of excellent
teaching thanks to its outstanding faculty team with diversified
backgrounds and research areas in biological science and technology.
The school now has two departments and five research institutes
offering 3 majors offer bachelor’s degree, 7 majors for master’s
degree and 4 majors for doctoral degree, along with a special program
for post-doctoral fellows. Two key research laboratories were each
designated by the Ministry of education and by Shanxi Province.
Two research areas are listed in the Shanxi Province Priority Disciplines
of Construction. The school has 59 faculty and 21 staff, with 566
undergraduate and 152 graduate students for master’s or doctoral
degrees. In recent three years, the school has attracted 100 research
grants with a total of more than RMB 10 million, yielding 360 journal
publications, 8 books, 4 patents and 7 projects successfully completed
with peer review endorsement. Furthermore, most of those projects
are applied in commercial production. |
